President #45 wants to stir the "pot" by attacking the poor with welfare reform

He stated that he is looking very strongly at welfare reform. "People are taking advantage of the system" is the view point that he has adopted. No facts or studies are listed. This is just what he feels according to what I have read.  He stated that he wants to get people off welfare and back to work. That is a stereotype that fails to hold water as the saying goes.

People are working but not making a living wage.  Where I live is a prime example.

Rent for two bedroom---$550.00
. More than 2 bedroom, rent can rise to close to $1,000 or more

Utilities--I am fortunate that water is include in rent.
. A town less than 2 miles from me, water bills can and frequently go over $100.00
. Gas runs me $39.00 to $90.00 depending on season. This is as long the thermostat is set at 60. If it      goes off too much. I drop the thermostat to 56 to 58 degrees to keep bill low.
. Electricity is another story. It has ranged from $39.00 to as high as $329.00 per month. I don't turn
the air condition on till late July. The thermostat is set at 80. That works as long as the town doesn't
need money for improvements. Houses got a $500.00 bill. For an apartment, I got a $329.00 bill. It
was a one time raise in the bill.

Taking the medium for the varying bills, my monthly expenses for rent and utilities is $660.00. Medication brings it to $700.00.  Insulin syringes, alcohol pads, and various things a diabetic needs brings the total $730. Bus and train fare to go where I need brings the monthly expenses to $780.00.  Laundry brings this to $800.00. Buying laundry sop. dish soap, and bath soap brings it to a total of $830.00.

My payments to Dr.'s, ambulance, hospital, and insurances brings it to $1000.00 a month. I tried to get help to pay my medical bills. With two witnesses listening on cell phone loud speaker, I was told to get out on the street and hustle for it. If I had a small child, I would do what I had to do. I will not turn to prostitution or stealing at my age to pay a medical bill.  A couple of collection companies threatened to put me in jail.  All I could say was that they should go for it. They could it explain their response to the media since I no longer cared about medical bills. I tell them at the time of getting medical help that after insurance payment I do not know if I will ever get the money to cover what is not paid. They tell me that I still need help and assist me firmly back on the stretcher.

That leaves $200 dollars to buy food for 2 people. I am a severe diabetic. Eating like I am supposed to is out of the question.  Some months  are what I call happy months. I can't afford Insulin at a reduced price some months. High blood sugar makes me drunk and in that state a person does not worry or care. Fresh vegetables are out of the question. An apple cost around a dollar where I live. Broccoli is now at a low of $3.00 a head. Other vegetables are just as high. To have food for a month, dried beans, rice and gravy are the choice.

It was an insulting joke trying to get food stamps. I stood up and left after I told them it was better to die on my feet than to beg them for help on my knees. It was the first and last time that I would cry over my situation. Only God cares about the poor.

Some people do not have it as good as this. Their bills are higher. Job loss did not improve their situation.  They do what they have to do in order to survive.

Before the supposition that help is needed, understand the situation. People are not lazy. Getting help from the state and government is a nasty experience. I discovered this myself.. A living wage is the first step if the government wants to help. People will lose jobs if wages are increased to $15.00  an hour suddenly. Increase the hourly wage  50 cents every two years till $15.00 an hour is reach. It gives the government time to quit scratching their butt and pay attention. Business has time to adjust. Common sense is not complicated. Government will complain because they have to work. What are they doing at that time except looking for things to bitch about!
