A woman from Uganda who now lives in Great Britain has been sentenced to 13 years in prison. The woman got 11 years for doing female genital mutilation on her 3 year old daughter. The 2 years extra was for possession of extreme pornography. Her husband was acquitted of the same charge but got 11 months in prison for possession of extreme pornography. The daughter of both these parents has been removed from the family and placed with another family. It is hard to understand why the woman would do this since it is against the law in Uganda as well as Great Britain. Culture has no part in this.
This woman claimed that she had nothing to do with her daughter's genital mutilation. She claimed that her daughter had suffered an injury. How can a three year old injure herself on her own so badly that her entire clitoris is sliced off ? In this case, the girls labia minora was removed also. A three year old is not capable of the dexterity required for this procedure. The three year old suffered severe blood loss due to this and had to be taken to a hospital. The hospital notified authorities.
It is interesting to note one thing. The police investigated the child's house where she lived with her parents. Inside they found items associated with backwards witchcraft and curses. Names of people were written on paper with curses calling for their mouths to freeze up when questioned. It most certainly and fortunately for the child did not work.
