Mass Murders in the DR Congo

Last year,  an unthinkable mass murder occurred that has some people saying the atrocities that occurred in the DR Congo need to be considered as  "Crimes Against Humanity." One source states that at least 500 people were verified as murdered. Families were burned alive in their homes. One two year old was thrown alive into a septic tank. One mass grave containing 100 bodies has been found in Bongende.

This atrocity was committed by the Batende community members against Banunu villages. It started when one Banunu chief had wanted to be buried on Batende land.  Also the Batende and Banunu were on different sides in the upcoming elections.

It was so swift and vicious that no one had time to react. Accordingly this shows that this atrocity was planned.  The death toll may be closer to 800. So far only 3of the 4 villages have been reached. Murdered people were also thrown into the river. People were beheaded and / or maimed.  People were killed trying to cross the river to escape. More than 19,000 people have been displaced. Over 1,000 homes, schools, businesses, and infrastructure buildings have been destroyed or looted. The provincial authorities in Yumbi has been accused of failing to protect the villagers. No complicity has been proven in this atrocity but the police left the villages before the attack.

I watched news feeds and read the following links for information before blogging.
