High death toll in warehouse fire

Around 11:30 p.m. Friday night, a fire broke out in a converted warehouse in Oakland, California in Alameda County.  A rave was being held in this warehouse that was called Oakland Ghost Ship. See the second link that has pictures of the entrance.

This building had no real entrance or exit. The rave was held on the second floor. Stacked wooden pallets were used as the only stairway to the rave.  According to the links below, the bottom floor was a warren covered with old furniture. There was no clear straight entrance and exit.

Thirty-Six people lost their lives. The death toll is expected to rise. Only 30 - 40 % of the building has been searched as of Sunday night. Safety issues has made it necessary for the slow recovery.

Because of this tragedy, people need to stop and think before entering party mode. Personal safety comes first. Exits need to be clearly marked. The pathway to the exit needs to be clear. If the stairs are stacked wooden pallets, leave the party. Look for smoke detectors and a sprinkler system. Think "If the place catches on fire can I get out." Live to party another day.

Please keep the victims, their families, and their friends in your prayers. If you do not pray, keep them in your positive thoughts.

I watched news feeds and read information from the following links before blogging.
